BIFA Urges Training During Furlough

(Europe) Government Grants Available

The British International Freight Association has called for UK breakbulk operators to take advantage of furlough periods to carry out training.

The association’s Customs declarations training courses was introduced in March 2019, and is eligible for government grant funding for employee training and IT improvements. Under the government’s rules on furloughed employees, ongoing work for the company is not allowed, but training is still permissible.

“I am encouraging any of our members, which have furloughed employees, to think about the business opportunities that will most likely arise as a result of the extra demand for customs brokerage services associated with the UK’s departure from the EU,” said Robert Keen, BIFA director general.

BIFA is an industry association run by its members and represents UK breakbulk operators and companies engaged in the international movement of freight.
