HLI Moves Air Force One Replica

Cargo specialist HLI Rail & Rigging has transported a replica of Air Force One to the National Harbor Exhibition Center in Maryland.

The Boeing 747 measured 70 meters long and 60 meters wide, and was transported from Quonset State Airport in Rhode Island. HLI arranged transport via Stevens Towing 2501 barge along Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River.

“Great care had to be taken to illuminate the wings of the plane at night and when maneuvering around other barges or structures. Lighting had to be mounted on the wing tips, and multiple support tugs were used to maintain visibility while the aircraft was being transported,” said Ross McLaren, HLI representative.

Based in Houston, Texas, HLI is a member the WCA network, which connects freight forwarders and project cargo companies worldwide.
