Shelby Cobra Flown to Luxembourg

Tailwind International recently delivered a 1965 Shelby Cobra replica to Europe in response to a Florida customer's urgent request. The sports car was originally scheduled to sail to its destination, but was delayed by paperwork.

With a 72-hour deadline, Tailwind's Dallas office arranged for the flight from Houston to Luxembourg. The company chartered a co-load on a 747 freighter.

Due to hazmat regulations the tank of the vehicle had to be drained prior to the loading and battery secured, Tailwind spokesperson Melanie Joison said. An enclosed car carrier was used to transport the vehicle to the airport under rainy conditions. Finally, the Shelby Cobra was secured to a 16-foot airline pallet at a Houston airport warehouse and loaded into the plane to arrive in time for a local car show.
