Fennovoima has received bids from its preferred suppliers, Areva and Toshiba, for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in northern Finland.
The French and Japanese power companies were asked to submit bids for the engineering, supply and construction of the reactor and turbine islands for the project located in Pyhäjoki.
The two bids are markedly different. Toshiba has included both the reactor and turbine islands in the scope of its bid, while Areva has proposed to handle the reactor and allow Alstom or Siemens supply the turbine islands.
The plant will be built on the Hanhikivi peninsula on the coast of Bothnian Bay.
A final decision on the plant supplier will be made this year or next, according to a report from World Nuclear News. Fennovoima will handle the prepatory site work that is scheduled to begin in the latter part of 2012. The plant could be commissioned in 2020.
