GE Oil & Gas has received contracts totaling more than US$1 billion to supply equipment and services for the Ichthys liquefied natural gas project in Australia. A joint venture between INPEX and Total, the Ichthys project is based on reserves from the Browse Basin, approximately 200 kilometers off the shore of Western Australia.
GE will provide, including four gas turbines and eight compressors, for a new Ichthys LNG plant at Blaydin Point, near Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory. It will also supply 10 turbines and 10 compressors for upstream facilities, as well as subsea production systems for the offshore portion of the project.
GE expects to ship the components by 2014, according to a company statement.
An 889-kilometer pipeline will carry the gas produced from a processing facility to the new plant in Darwin. The Ichthys LNG Project is expected to produce 8.4 million tons of liquified natural gas and 1.6 million tons of liquified petroleum gas per year, along with 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak.
