Alstom will supply turbines and generators to the new Itezhi-Tezhi hydroelectric dam in Zambia. The US$26.3 million contract was awarded to the French power company by Sinohyro, a Chinese engineering company who holds the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the project.
The hydropower station will be constructed on the Kafue River in central Zambia, approximately 260 kilometers south of the country's capital, Lusaka. Due to be completed in 2015, the plant will have a generating capacity of 120 megawatts.
Alstom will provide two 60 -megawatt Kaplan turbine and generator units and supervise installation and commissioning of the equipment.
The hydropower plant is being developed by Itezhi-Tehzi Power Corporation, a joint venture between India's Tata and state-owned Zambia Electricity Supply.
