Samsung Bases Offshore Wind Center in Scotland

Breakbulk Online - News Story

Samsung Heavy Industries will establish its first European offshore wind center in Scotland at the Fife Energy Park in Methil. The announcement was made by Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond at the Scottish Offshore Wind Conference in Aberdeen.

The Korean manufacturer will test its first 7-megawatt turbines off the Fife coast and in South Korea before constructing the US$158 million plant. The gearbox systems for the turbines will be supplied by East Kilbride-based David Brown Gear Systems, a division of engineering company Clyde Blowers, according to international reports.

Scotland plans to generate all of its country's electricity from renewable sources by 2020.
