Corpus Christi Wins Further CIP Funding

President's Budget Add Ship Channel Funds

Further investment for the Port of Corpus Christi has been approved by the White House, paving the way for ship channel improvement works to proceed.

The Ship Channel Improvement Project, or CIP, was included in the most recent President’s Budget for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Coastal Navigation Construction this week and will see an additional US$53.3 million in funding made available.

“The additional support announced today in the president’s budget proposal is very encouraging … the Port of Corpus Christi is vital not just to economic growth in our region but also for the strategic interests of our nation,” Congressman Michael Cloud said.

Located on the western Gulf of Mexico, Port Corpus Christi is the fourth-largest port in the U.S. by total tonnage and a major crude oil export gateway and breakbulk hub.
