deugro Delivers Paper Machine Equipment

Shipped from Germany and Italy to China for Voith Paper

deugro Germany recently executed a pulp and paper project for its new client Voith Paper with a total of 2,241 tonnes and 10,500 cubic meters of cargo shipped between January and August 2021.

The paper machine equipment was shipped from the ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven, Germany, and Genoa, Italy, to Beihai, China.

The specialist high-value cargo was produced at Voith Paper’s production site in Heidenheim, Germany. deugro arranged the ocean voyage to China and the on-carriage to the final production site in Beihai. The heavy and oversized cargo units with weights of up to 68 tonnes were shipped on roll-on, roll-off vessels, allowing for a high frequency and fast transit time from Germany and Italy to China, deugro said.

“The most challenging aspect of this project was the drastically changing global freight market situation amid the Covid-19 pandemic, with an extreme surge in freight rates, container equipment imbalance, blanked sailings and unpredictable transit times,” said Michael Felke, project manager, deugro Germany.

“Despite these significant difficulties, it was a great pleasure to work with all parties involved, to find workable solutions and to overcome the challenges faced during the project execution,” Felke added.
