Four Newbuilds Boost Carrier’s Capability in Multi-Purpose Heavy-Lift Market
Maritime transport specialist dship Carriers has completed a four-year fleet expansion programme after it took delivery of the last of four environmentally-friendly F-500 multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels.
MV Charlie joins MV Mick, MV Keith and MV Ronnie in a line-up that will boost the German shipping firm’s capability in the multi-purpose market at a time when capacities are at a premium and cargo slots are rare.
Each of the new vessels, built by China’s Taizhou Sanfu Shipbuilding, boasts a deadweight of 12,385 tonnes, and is equipped with two Liebherr cranes with a combined lifting capacity of 500 metric tonnes. A 75-metre-long second hold allows heavy and lengthy cargo to be stowed below deck.
The vessels have been installed with Becker Mewis Duct and Becker rudder energy-saving devices to reduce fuel consumption and boost efficiency.
“dship Carriers is committed to helping achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement – our newbuild F- 500 vessels are one more step towards this,” said Lars Feller, global vice president of dship Carriers. “We look forward to seeing the MV Charlie in action and wish the crew all the best and good luck.”
dship Carriers is a unit of German heavy-lift group deugro, and works with project cargo owners mainly in the oil and gas, wind energy and floating cargo industries.
The delivery of the four F-500 types boosts dship Carriers’ fleet to 19 MPVs, according to company data.
The shipping firm took delivery last year of two general cargo vessels, Eemslift Dafne and Eemslift Nadine, each with a deadweight of 4,200 tonnes and onboard cranes with a lifting capacity of 300 tonnes.
dship Carriers will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Europe 2022, on 17-19 May in Rotterdam.
