(MENA) Mouiat Outlad Messaoud Field

Italian engineering firm Maire Tecnimont has signed a contract with Groupement Bir Seba for the upgrade of oil processing facilities in Algeria.

The engineering, procurement and construction award covers work on the Bir Seba Phase II and Mouiat Outlad Messaoud Field Development” Project in the Touggourt area of Algeria. Maire Tecnimont estimates the project value at US$400 million.

“We are really proud to strengthen a mutually beneficial relationship with such prominent clients, as sound evidence of our successful operations in the country. This is the fifth major award for our group in 2020 in spite of the ongoing Covid pandemic and is a further testament of our core business’ resilience,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, Maire Tecnimont Group CEO.

Strategic Market

Located about 130 kilometers northeast of Hassi Messaoud, the field is operated by Groupement Bir Seba, a consortium comprising Algeria’s state-owned Sonatrach, Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corp., and PTT Exploration & Production Algeria, a subsidiary of Thailand’s national oil company PTTEP.

“After our previous award with Sonatrach in 2018, this achievement lets us further consolidate our industrial footprint in the strategic Algerian market in the crucial oil and gas sector, having matured a solid experience of projects’ execution in other Middle Eastern and North African countries.

Capacity Growth

The Bir Seba project will involve expansion of an existing oil central processing facility and installation of a new oil separation train, doubling total capacity to 40,000 barrels of oil per day.

“The project also includes the installation of two additional remote gathering stations and more than 400 kilometers of pipelines to connect the new oil production wells, along with the implementation of gas lift and water injection facilities,” a spokesperson for Maire Tecnimont said.

Maire Tecnimont provides a range of engineering and construction services for the oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical, energy, infrastructure and civil engineering sectors. The firm is headquartered in Rome and manages large turnkey engineering, procurement and construction projects in approximately 45 countries with a workforce of more than 6,300 employees.
