Serves German Port’s Growing Project, Container Business
Mukran Port Terminals GmbH, the operating company for the Port of Sassnitz in Germany, a crucial link on the New Silk Road, recently augmented its fleet of Liebherr mobile harbor cranes by adding a third LHM 550 to its fleet.
With a radius of 54 meters and a maximum lifting capacity of 144 tonnes, the LHM 550 is adaptable to a wide range of applications, Liebherr said. At the Sassnitz, the cranes are used primarily for the port’s growing project business, as well as its increasing container volume.
"With the new mobile harbor crane, we are strengthening our position as a multipurpose port for future business in the project cargo sector. We are also taking into account the rapid development of traffic on the New Silk Road via the Mukran site as a crucial link," said Harm Sievers, managing director of Mukran Port Terminals.
Starting with a lease of the LHM 550 last year, its performance and flexibility convinced the port to purchase the machine. It also marks the sixth Liebherr mobile harbor crane in Sassnitz, a port town on the island of Rügen. The Murkan port acts as an interface for international transport chains for rail, sea and road. Transport of goods takes only 12 days to and from China.
"The multifunctionality of Liebherr mobile harbour cranes makes them attractive for all areas of application in the port. Thanks to the simple modular design, lifting devices can be replaced within a short time,” Sievers said.
The port had operated two LHM 400 mobile harbor cranes for years, and the increased fleet serves customers’ growing demand.
The LHM 550 is the best-selling model in the Liebherr mobile harbor crane portfolio, with more than 300 units sold.
