Ecomar Designed to Transport Various Types of Breakbulk Cargo
AtoB@C Shipping, a subsidiary of Helsinki-based dry bulk carrier ESL Shipping, has taken delivery of the third in a series of 12 plug-in hybrid vessels.
The 5,350-dwt ship, named Ecomar, was launched at Chowgule Shipbuilding in the Indian state of Goa before embarking on its maiden voyage to Europe.
Ecomar has been designed to transport various types of bulk and breakbulk cargo including steel, forest products, fertilizers and project cargoes. The vessel features a spacious and unobstructed deck to transport larger pieces of project cargo, while the bridge and crew quarters are positioned at the ship’s bow to optimize capacity and enhance navigation safety.
Ecomar’s sister ships Electramar and Stellamar were delivered in December 2023 and in April 2024, respectively. The remaining nine in the series are slated for delivery by mid-2026.
“The first vessel has now been in regular traffic for two months and both our team and clients have been delighted with its performance. We are happy to add Ecomar into our expanding fleet,” said Frida Rowland, commercial director at AtoB@C Shipping.
AtoB@C Shipping, founded in 2000 and part of ESL Shipping since 2018, is a shortsea operator specializing in the transport of bulk and breakbulk. Together the group boasts more than 40 vessels with capacities ranging from 4,000 to 25,000 dwt.
Late last year ESL Shipping received a gold medal in Ecovadis’ sustainability assessment, placing it among the top 5% of companies in the same industry evaluated by the world’s foremost provider of sustainability ratings.
