Broekman Expands Breakbulk Capacity at Rotterdam

Acquisition of J.C. Meijers Terminal a “Next Step” in Port’s Breakbulk Carousel Project

Broekman Logistics has expanded its breakbulk capacity at the port of Rotterdam after acquiring the multipurpose terminal J.C. Meijers.

The new company will operate as JCMB, a member of Broekman Logistics.

The terminal spans some 19,000 square meters, with a quay length of 270 meters and an indoor storage of 3,000 square meters. The facility boasts a lifting capacity of up to 120 tons and features a rail connection for multimodal transport solutions.

Financial details of the deal were not released.

“This acquisition is an important strategic investment for Broekman Logistics, as JCMB is located adjacent to the Broekman Project Services terminal,” said Rob van Dijk, director of operations at JCMB. “The expertise and facilities strengthen our position as an industry specialist for breakbulk, heavy-lift and offshore. We look forward to collaborating with the customers and partners of J.C. Meijers.”

According to the Broekman, the acquisition is a next step in the “breakbulk carousel”, a project launched six years ago by companies at the port of Rotterdam and the Rotterdam Port Authority to strengthen the facility’s breakbulk segment.

“This next step in the breakbulk carousel, together with all involved parties, shows that the Port of Rotterdam is strongly committed to the development and modernization of the breakbulk sector,” said Twan Romeijn, business manager breakbulk and offshore, the port of Rotterdam.
