Sarens SGC-250 to Hinkley Point C
Haulage firm Collett & Sons has transported the world’s largest crane from the Port of Avonmouth to the Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant project in the UK.
The Sarens SGC-250 arrived at the port from Ghent, Belgium, and was discharged utilizing port cranes, mobile cranes and seven specialist vehicles to a designated laydown area. From there Collett oversaw handling of more than 3,000 tonnes of cargo to the HPC site.
“Once constructed, the crane will be responsible for lifting HPC’s heaviest components. It is planned that more than 600 heavy fabrications, including the five major parts of each unit’s steel containment liner and dome, will be positioned by the SGC-250,” a spokesperson for Collett & Sons said.
Based in Halifax, England, Collett & Sons operates a fleet of heavy-lift trucks, trailers and SPMTs and provides breakbulk logistics throughout the UK and Europe.
