GAC Spain Expands Footprint on Iberian Peninsula

New Office at Port of Huelva to Strengthen GAC’s Support for Energy Transition

GAC Spain has launched a new branch at the Port of Huelva in southwest Spain, a move the logistics provider said would help support the country’s growing green energy sector.

The new site will offer GAC’s existing dry and liquid bulk customers and gas carriers at Huelva with a range of logistics services including ship agency, husbandry, bunker fuels, customs clearance, crew change support and freight services, especially ship spares logistics.

Huelva, a key hub for conventional and renewable fuels, ranks among the top ten Spanish ports in terms of traffic and is the second largest port in Andalusia behind Algeciras, where GAC Spain is headquartered. Huelva is also part of the Andalusia Green Hydrogen Valley – Spain’s most ambitious renewable hydrogen project and one of the largest in Europe.

“As development of infrastructure for both green hydrogen and renewable energy continues to gain momentum in the south of Spain, our presence in both Huelva and Algeciras becomes increasingly vital for supporting our customers,” said Sergio Delatorre, managing director of GAC Spain.

“We are committed to supporting our ship owner and ship management customers wherever they go. Now, with enhanced capabilities, we are better placed than ever to serve them in true GAC style, leveraging our global reach and local knowledge to support their strategic goals.”

Led by Spanish energy firm CEPSA, the US$3.2 billion Andalusia Green Hydrogen Valley initiative is calling for the construction of two green hydrogen plants at Huelva and Cadiz.

With a combined 2-GW electrolysis capacity, the facilities are expected to produce up to 300,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year from renewably sourced energy. They will also boost the production of biofuels and derivatives such as green ammonium and methanol, helping decarbonize manufacturing and heavy road transport.

GAC was established in 1956 and employs over 7,500 people in more than 300 offices worldwide. The group is headquartered in Dubai.
