‘Major Storm’ Expected to Make Southern Florida Landfall
The U.S. National Weather Service has issued a series of storm warnings as Hurricane Dorian intensifies in the Atlantic, moving towards the U.S. eastern seaboard.
The Coast Guard has placed Port Canaveral and Miami in Florida under hurricane condition “Whiskey” and forecasts suggest Dorian will make landfall as a "major storm," a Category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, with windspeeds at up to 140 miles per hour. President Trump warned it could be an "absolute monster" in comments to the media.
“Hurricane Dorian is forecast to strengthen into a major hurricane while moving north of the Bahamas early this weekend. The risk of life-threatening storm surge, devastating hurricane-force winds, as well as heavy rainfall and flooding, continues to increase,” the NWS stated.
Port Everglades, Port Canaveral, and the Port of Jacksonville, in Florida may all potentially be affected with Brunswick and Savannah in Georgia; and Charleston, in South Carolina also preparing for its effects. If the storm impacts the West Coast of Florida, the ports of Tampa and Port Manatee could also be impacted.
