390-Tonne Hydraulic Hammer Shipped to Singapore for Offshore Wind Project
MSC has smashed its own heavy-lift record after transporting a hefty 390-tonne hydraulic hammer from Rotterdam to Singapore.
The 25.7-meter-long unit arrived in Singapore in late August and will be used to drill foundation poles into the seabed for an offshore wind power project. Because of its size, the hammer had been delivered to Rotterdam by barge and lifted using some of the heaviest floating cranes available, including the 125-meter-high Asian Hercules II.
The project’s planning stage had included carrying out onsite pre-inspection activities and drawing up a detailed lifting and lashing plan.
“Well done to my team and all who contributed to the successful shipment of this extraordinary cargo,” said Ben Collins, global project cargo manager at MSC.
“The fact that our customer has entrusted us with such huge and time-sensitive cargo is testament to the confidence in MSC’s ability to deliver the load safely to Singapore. We look forward to providing more solutions for even larger and heavier packages in the future.”
MSC will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Americas on Oct. 15-17 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
