Company Also Investing in Pair of Deck Carriers and Second Gantry Crane
Roll Group has bolstered its position in the heavy transport barge market after adding a first owned heavy-lift barge to its fleet.
The vessel, named RollBarge 1, is one of several planned investments to expand the company’s asset base in the coming months, and signals the heavy-lift specialist’s shift from relying on rented barges, it said in a statement.
The vessel was delivered by the ASL Shipyard in Batam, Indonesia.
Among its features is the capability to float in and out of the company’s semi-submersible ships and beach in shallow waters, which enables the delivery of high-value modules to hard-to-get-to locations without the need for costly dredging.
“Together, we have not only created a valuable new asset to our fleet, but also enhanced our portfolio with a solution that improves efficiency and makes a significant contribution to our environmental preservation targets,” said Peter Rondhuis, CEO of Roll Group.
Netherlands-headquartered Roll Group said it would also be investing this year in a second gantry crane with a lifting capacity of more than 4,000 tons, the second major lifting solution introduced in the last two years.
The company has already invested in an additional 300 axel lines, including both conventional trailers and self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs), with plans to add two more deck carriers to its fleet next year.
Roll Group will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Americas 2024 on 15-17 October in Houston.
