Wagenborg Orders Fourth EasyMax MPV

Delivery of 13,800-Tonne-Capacity Vessel Slated for Late-2024

Wagenborg Shipping has inked a deal with the Royal Niestern Sander shipyard in the Netherlands to construct a fourth EasyMax multipurpose vessel, with delivery of the newbuild expected in the autumn of 2024.

The repeat order fits into the production process at the yard, with the construction of a third EasyMax currently in full swing, Wagenborg said. That vessel is slated to roll off the production line by year-end 2023.

The 150-metre-long, box-shaped EasyMax has a deadweight cargo capacity of 13,800 tonnes, and was jointly developed by Wagenborg and Niestern Sander. The vessel boasts a 1A ice class rating, meaning it can navigate extremely challenging ice-covered waters.

The ship, designed to carry a wide range of bulk, breakbulk and project cargo, was awarded the KVNR Maritime Shipping Award in 2017 for its design and superior fuel efficiency. The first in series, named Egbert Wagenborg, was built in 2017, with a second, Maxima, delivered in 2021.

“The Egbert Wagenborg and Maxima have more than proven themselves as sustainable and successful ship types and, together with her future sisters, will continue to contribute to Wagenborg Shipping's position as a leading multipurpose shipping company,” Wagenborg said.

Wagenborg Shipping is a division of Royal Wagenborg, the Netherlands-based maritime logistics group that also operates heavy-lift specialist Nedlift. Its fleet of 170 ice-strengthened MPVs ranges in size from 1,700 to 23,000 tonnes.
