Carrier: 'Serious Congestion' In China

(Asia) Coronavirus Impacting Trade, Blue Water Said

Serious congestion problems are impacting the breakbulk shipping sector across China and the Far East, according to cargo shipping line Blue Water.

The firm notes that shipping lines are now passing costs on to customers, including but not limited to, storage, demurrage and plugging costs at alternative port or extra forwarding costs. Countermeasures such as discharge of cargo in alternative ports and the introduction of congestion fees is also now reported to be prevalent.

“We will as your freight forwarder do what we can to mitigate any costs and inconveniences following from such measures,” the firm notes, adding that customers planning “new shipments to the Far East must take due consideration to the existing congestion and its possible negative impact.”

Blue Water operates 55 offices in more than 26 countries worldwide and is headquartered in Esbjerg on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula in southwest Denmark.
