Port Tampa Bay Handles Giant Dragline Buckets

40-Tonne Units Used by Mosaic for Phosphate Mining in Florida

Port Tampa Bay, Florida's largest shipping port, has handled a batch of 40-tonne dragline buckets for potash and phosphate fertilizer producer, Mosaic.

The steel buckets, shipped by Danish logistics firm Maersk, are being used by Tampa-headquartered Mosaic for phosphate mining and manufacturing activities throughout central Florida. The units have a digging volume of 69 cubic yards, and will be deployed to unearth raw phosphate for processing.

According to a Port Tampa Bay spokesperson, Ports America handled stevedoring operations while Kentucky-based Edwards Moving and Rigging carried out inland transportation. The Florida Highway Patrol were on hand to supervise the move.

Mosaic is America's largest producer of potash and phosphate fertilizers, with mining operations in the US, Canada and Peru. The company is also active in Brazil and Paraguay through its subsidiary, Mosaic Fertilizantes.

Port Tampa Bay, Maersk, Ports America and Edwards Moving and Rigging will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Americas 2022, taking place on 27-29 September at the George R. Brown Convention Centre in Houston, Texas.
