Mega tunnel boring machines transported from Nansha
Multipurpose operator AAL has transported two mega tunnel-boring machines from Nansha in South China to sites in Australia.
The TBM units totalled more than 7,445 cubic meters in volume and jointly weighed 2,000 tonnes. They were loaded aboard the AAL Kembla, on behalf of Geodis Hamburg and manufacturer Herrenknecht.
“On this occasion we had tight delivery deadlines. A four-day window to discharge the first unit in White Bay, Sydney – which we did directly to barge – and then to deliver the second unit to Melbourne by 28 February, which we accomplished,” said Marco Wendt, European chartering manager for AAL.
AAL is a member of Cypriot investment group Schoeller Holdings and operates a specialist multipurpose fleet with heavy-lift capabilities of up to 700 tonnes. The company provides breakbulk, heavy lift and project cargo services worldwide to the energy, oil and gas, mining, forestry, leisure, agriculture and construction sectors.
