Allseas Installs Pipeline System for Dutch Natgas Project

Contractor’s Pipelay Vessel Lorelay Deployed for Pipelaying and Burial

Allseas has completed pipeline installation and post-lay activities for the N05-A natural gas project in the Dutch North Sea.

The offshore energy contractor’s scope included the transport and installation of a 15-kilometer natural gas export pipeline linking the N05-A platform to Noordgastransport’s (NGT) existing pipeline network, which runs to Uithuizen. Allseas’ 227-meter pipelaying vessel Lorelay was deployed for shallow water pipelay, pipeline burial and pre-commissioning activities.

The N05-A gas field, developed by exploration and production company ONE-Dyas, is located 20 kilometers north of the islands of Schiermonnikoog and Borkum and represents the largest Dutch investment in natural gas in more than 15 years.

Final permits to develop N05-A and surrounding prospects were secured in August, with first gas expected to flow to Dutch and German households by the end of 2024.

“With the swift and safe installation of this pipeline, we’re not only helping ONE-Dyas meet their ambitious first-gas timeline, but we’re also supporting an ambitious energy project that’s crucial for the Netherlands,” said Paul van Haestregt, project manager at Allseas. “This pipeline will deliver reliable and affordable gas to Dutch homes and businesses while also supporting the country’s transition to cleaner energy sources.”

According to Allseas, the N05-A project is an “innovation” in clean gas development.

The project’s production hub is powered by offshore wind, making it the most environmentally friendly natural gas development in the North Sea. The infrastructure is designed to support future development of green hydrogen and carbon capture and storage (CCS) – emerging sectors in which Allseas’ pipeline design and installation expertise is poised to play an important role, the company added.
