Offshore Gas Export Project
Offshore engineering specialist Allseas Marine Contractors has signed a contract with oil major ConocoPhillips to develop the Barossa Gas Export Pipeline in Australia.
The contract covers all engineering, procurement, construction and installation for the 260-kilometer offshore pipeline, connecting to the existing Darwin LNG facility, located in Commonwealth waters north of Darwin, Northern Territory
“Award of this EPCI contract will enable specific project management and engineering deliverables to be progressed prior to a final investment decision in order to meet the project schedule,” said Chris Wilson, president of ConocoPhillips Australia West.
Tie-in to Bayu-Darwin Pipeline
The Barossa offshore gas and light condensate project is set to comprise a floating production storage and offloading, or FPSO, facility, subsea production system and gas export pipeline. The pipeline will allow natural gas to be transported from the LNG facility to a tie-in location on the existing Bayu-Darwin Pipeline 100 kilometers northwest of Darwin.
“We continue to focus on strong cost discipline with all our selected contractors, developing the certainty of cost, schedule and execution planning required to compete in our global portfolio and support a final investment decision,” Wilson added.
Front-end engineering design, orFEED, work for the Barossa offshore project is currently nearing its end.
Significant Income
Operated as joint venture by ConocoPhillips Australia Barossa, SK E&S Australia and Santos Offshore, the Barossa offshore development area encompasses petroleum retention lease NT/RL5 and potential future phased development in the smaller Caldita Field to the south in retention lease NT/RL6
The partners expect the project to “contribute significant income, employment and other benefits” to the Northern Territory and Australia through continued operation of the Darwin LNG facility.
Australian vendor identification for the Barossa Offshore Project will be carried out by the Industry Capability Network on behalf of ConocoPhillips.
