BigLift Shipping is beefing up its fleet after ordering a new heavy-lift vessel, a move it said would strengthen its capacity to meet rising global demand for heavy and project cargo transport.
The vessel, a full sister ship of the BigLift vessel Happy Star, will be built by Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore in China, with delivery scheduled for June 2028. The deal includes an option for a second vessel, said BigLift, a division of the Spliethoff Group.
According to the company, the ship will feature advanced lifting capabilities thanks to two 1,100-ton heavy-lift mast cranes supplied by Huisman. It will also boast a full-width weather deck and adjustable tweendeck to ensure optimal cargo space.
Built to Finnish/Swedish 1A Ice Class standards, the vessel is equipped to operate safely and efficiently in demanding conditions around the globe, BigLift said.
“This newbuild is a bold and welcome addition to our fleet, empowering BigLift’s commitment to pushing the limits of heavy lift shipping,” said Johan Boer, managing director of BigLift Shipping. “With this vessel, we are fully prepared to handle the most demanding heavy-lift projects, delivering exceptional service to our customers worldwide while ensuring ample redundancy for every operation.”
Spliethoff Group will be exhibiting at this year’s Breakbulk Europe event in Rotterdam.
