Bolloré Delivers Cargo For Ivory Coast Power Plant

Shipment To CIPREL 5 Included Three 175-Tonne Transformers

Bolloré Transport and Logistics Côte d’Ivoire has delivered project cargo for the construction of the CIPREL 5 thermal power plant in southern Ivory Coast.

The local unit of the France-based forwarder deployed special logistics solutions at the nearby port of Abidjan to unload the freight, which included three 175-tonne autotransformers, two 80-tonne transformers, two 53-tonne reactors and a batch of electrical equipment totalling 290 tonnes.

The cargo was then transported by road to the CIPREL 5 site, where it will be used for the installation of two transformer stations, the forwarder said.

“Bolloré Transport and Logistics’ teams have achieved a new feat by carrying out this transport operation for the CIPREL 5 project,” said Joël Hounsinou, general director of Bolloré Logistics and Transport Côte d’Ivoire.

“Our expertise in industrial projects allows us to meet all logistical challenges by developing specific solutions for our customers and to reinforce the quality of our services in key sectors such as energy.”

The 390-megawatt CIPREL 5, also known as Atinkou, is being built in two phases by French utility group Eranove on a 30-hectare site near the coastal town of Jacqueville.

According to the African Development Bank, CIPREL 5 is designed to replace a number of older power plants in Ivory Coast, and once online, will be the most efficient gas power facility in West Africa. The country is setting its sights on becoming a regional power hub, targeting a renewable energy capacity of 3.3 gigawatts by 2030.

Bolloré operates several assets in Ivory Coast including at the major ports of Abidjan and San Pedro and the Abidjan – Ouagadougou railway, a strategic artery linking the country’s economic capital to Burkina Faso.

In December, Bolloré received a 5-7 billion euro offer from MSC Group to buy its African transport and logistics business.
