Contractors Will Design, Construct and Install YT2 Pipeline for CPV Corporation

A joint venture (JV) between offshore contractors Boskalis and Allseas has secured a €1.2 billion contract from Taiwan’s state-owned oil and gas firm CPC Corporation to build a major offshore natural gas pipeline.
The 50/50 consortium will design, construct, install and pre-commission the 232-kilometer YT2 pipeline, which will run parallel to an existing line linking the Yongan liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal in southern Taiwan to the Tongxiao transfer station in the north.
The project, aimed at boosting energy security and supporting Taiwan’s energy transition, is slated to begin in 2026 and conclude in 2028.
Boskalis will handle landfalls and associated micro-tunneling operations, nearshore and offshore trenching, backfilling and rock installation, using a fleet including two large hopper dredgers, a large backhoe dredger and a subsea rock installation vessel.
Allseas will carry out offshore pipelaying and pre-commissioning, including the pre-lay installation of concrete mattresses. For these activities, Allseas will deploy two of its cutting-edge pipelay vessels.
The YT2 pipeline will include 34 crossings over existing and future subsea infrastructure. The project “reinforces [the consortium’s] leading position in the offshore sector,” the companies said in a joint statement.
Taiwan is ramping up LNG infrastructure as it shifts away from coal and nuclear energy, with gas expected to play a central role in its future energy mix.
