Deal for 7,000-Car Capacity Vessels Signed with Parent Firm CMA CGM
France-based Ceva Logistics has signed a 10-year lease agreement with parent company CMA CGM to manage and operate four deep-sea, dual-fuel hybrid RoRo vessels.
The deal for Eastern Pacific Shipping’s 7,000-car capacity vessels will allow Ceva to ship 140,000 vehicles every year between global markets, especially China and Europe, Ceva said. The ships are being built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, with the first of the fleet slated for delivery in December 2023. The remaining vessels are expected to be ready in 2024.
According to Ceva, each vessel is nearly 200 metres long and 38 metres wide, and boasts almost 59,000 square metres of effective deck surface spread across 12 levels. The 72,000 gross tonnage ships have a maximum speed of 19.5 knots.
The fleet’s hybrid power systems will include both LNG and electric battery capabilities.
“As the automotive supply chain continues to stabilize from numerous shocks over the past several years, we have remained close to our customers to understand their challenges and growth opportunities,” said Emmanuel Cheremetinski, global FVL leader at Ceva.
“The decision to operate four deep-sea ROROs is a clear example of our promise of responsive logistics. With such a large need for additional capacity, we found a solution that allows us to co-create long-term value with our customers in the global economy by improving the go-to-market conditions for their finished vehicles.”
Ceva also said it was strengthening its Cars in Containers business to provide a more flexible option for shippers who need to transport smaller quantities of finished vehicles to strategic ports or in-land locations not easily served by its own RoRo vessels or other carrier partners.
Carmakers would be able to take advantage of this solution for reduced lead times and increased flexibility in terms of shipping schedules, the company said.
Ceva Logistics and parent company CMA CGM will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Europe 2023, taking place on 6-8 June at Rotterdam Ahoy. To reserve your tickets, click on this link.
