C.H. Robinson Moves Substation Transformer

Logistics firm C.H. Robinson has transported a transformer from California to Nevada as part of a substation upgrade.

The unit weighed 162.5 tonnes and measured 11 meters long and 4 meters in diameter. It was collected from the Port of Long Beach to a Goldhofer Girder Trailer System. Once loaded the cargo measured 96 meters in situ.

“The 280-mile journey required four patrol escorts, two pilot vehicles, a mechanic truck and a county supervisor vehicle for transport to the California-Nevada border,” a spokesperson for C.H. Robinson said.

Based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, C.H. Robinson provides breakbulk services worldwide and is a member of member of the Project Cargo Network, which connects heavy-lift forwarders in more than 100 countries.
