CMA CGM Doubles Number of Female Seafarers

Carrier Targets 1,000 Women at Sea by 2030 as “She Sails” Program Hits One-Year Mark

A CMA CGM initiative launched a year ago to attract and promote women in seafaring roles has doubled the number of female crew members across its fleet, rising from 200 to 403.

The program, dubbed She Sails, has also helped accelerate women’s careers this year by expanding its global ambassador network, forging new partnerships with maritime academies and driving 74 promotions across the fleet, including eight to senior officer roles.

CMA CGM said it aims to recruit 1,000 women at sea by 2030 as part of efforts to widen access to maritime careers in a traditionally male-dominated sector.

“In just one year, our program has proven its effectiveness: the results exceed our expectations,” said Christine Cabau Woehrel, executive vice president in charge of operations and assets at CMA CGM.

“More women are accessing key positions, their career paths are accelerating, their confidence is growing, and our teams are gaining in both diversity and performance. These achievements are a source of pride, but above all a responsibility: to continue our efforts, to go further, and to make equal opportunities a lasting reality across all our teams.”

CMA CGM will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Middle East 2026, taking place on 4-5 Feb in Dubai.
