Coaster Promptly Deployed to Ship Turbine Rings from Koper to Aveiro
Breakbulk movers Comark and Freja recently found themselves in a race against time to ensure a batch of 7-meter-diameter wind turbine rings were promptly delivered from China to Portugal.
The first leg of the delivery, handled by Denmark-based Freja, saw the time-sensitive components loaded onto the multipurpose vessel CP Nowowiejski and readied for their Europe-bound voyage.
The vessel was scheduled for a first stop-off at Slovenia’s Port of Koper on the Adriatic Sea and then a second at the port of Antwerp where the rings were due to be transferred to another ship for delivery to the final location at Portugal’s port of Aveiro.
“Unfortunately, the vessel was behind schedule, and the delivery deadline to Portugal was threatened,” Polona Benda, project manager at Slovenia-based Comark, told Breakbulk.
Up against a tight deadline, Comark was called on to arrange a last-minute charter of the coaster vessel German Sky to bypass Antwerp and ship the components directly from Koper to Aveiro.
“Despite the high pressure and challenges, the team was able to deliver the cargo on time,” said Comark’s Benjamin Herman. “The successful completion of this time-critical project cargo delivery exemplifies the joint capability Freja and Comark. With such projects we hope to establish a new benchmark in project cargo delivery, serving as an inspiring example for the entire industry that even firm plans at the time of execution can change to meet customer needs.”
Comark, a regular exhibitor at Breakbulk Europe, was recently shortlisted for Project Logistics Provider of the Year at the Heavy Lift Awards 2023, taking place on 25 October in London.
Freja, meanwhile, also an exhibitor at Breakbulk Europe, announced in March the launch of a fourth office in China. The new base in Shenzhen adds to its existing Chinese facilities at Shanghai, Qingdao, and Guangzhou.
