(Americas) Federal Funding for Infrastructure Expansion
Authorities at the Port of Corpus Christi have received a federal grant of more than US$17 million for the first phase of its planned Avery Point Terminal redevelopment project.
The funding will be used to expand infrastructure at Corpus Christi Ship Channel’s Inner Harbor and is expected to double barge berthing capacity. The port delivered record growth last year, primarily driven by an increase in American energy production and exports.
“The activity of cargo and barges passing through at the Port of Corpus Christi each day contributes to our region’s thriving economy. These funds will improve port infrastructure, providing increased access for our local businesses and industries to their trade partners,” said Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas.
Port Corpus Christi is the fourth-largest U.S. port by total tonnage and a major crude oil export gateway and breakbulk hub. It is connected landside by three North American Class-1 railroads and two major interstate highways.
