COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers has carried out the naming ceremony for the newest addition to its fleet, the multipurpose vessel MV Yuan Fu.
For its inaugural journey, the 62,000-deadweight-ton (DWT) vessel will carry wind power equipment from China to South America, a project COSCO said underscored its “dedication to global renewable energy initiatives.”
It added: “This event signifies a significant stride in our ongoing efforts to expand and modernize our fleet. We eagerly anticipate the successful voyages ahead and remain steadfast in our commitment to delivering exceptional service to our clients.”
COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers, a division of China’s COSCO Shipping, operates and manages a fleet of more than 100 vessels, including multipurpose and heavy-lift vessels, semi-submersible vessels, pure car carriers, log carriers and asphalt carriers.
Last month, COSCO expanded its fleet of wood pulp carriers after naming two new 62,000-DWT multipurpose vessels – Ji Xiang and Ru Yi – at China’s Shandong Huanghai Shipyard, boosting the number of ships in the series to 22.
The company also named and took delivery of the Green Munguba, the ninth vessel in its 77,000-DWT wood pulp carrier series. The series is billed as the world’s largest specialized wood pulp transport fleet.
COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers and COSCO Shipping Heavy Transport will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Americas 2024 on Oct. 15-17 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
