Crowley Appoints Meaghan Atkinson to Head Up Sustainability

Executive to Lead Company’s Drive Towards Net-Zero Emissions by 2050

US-based marine and logistics specialist Crowley has named Meaghan Atkinson as its new vice president of sustainability.

Atkinson, who joined Crowley in 2021 as director of sustainability and regulatory affairs, will steer the company’s decarbonization push as it targets net-zero emissions by 2050, the group said in a filing.

In her previous role, the executive spearheaded the creation of Crowley’s first greenhouse gas inventory and played a key role in publishing its first-ever sustainability report. Prior to Crowley, Atkinson spent more than 15 years managing sustainability programmes for organizations such as CSX Corporation and the State of Florida Department of Military Affairs.

“Crowley is poised through Meaghan’s leadership to help our people, suppliers, partners and customers advance with cleaner technology and transparent, data-driven results,” said Parker Harrison, Crowley’s chief legal and risk officer.

“Her expertise on the environmental, social and government dimensions of sustainability have made her a leader inside and outside our organization.”

Crowley, founded in 1892, operates through five main business lines – Crowley Logistics, Crowley Government Solutions, Crowley Shipping, Crowley Wind Services and Crowley Fuels.

The company owns, operates or manages a fleet of more than 170 vessels.

Among its green initiatives, the group last year announced it would build and operate eWolf, the first all-electric-powered harbour tugboat in the US.

The 82-foot vessel, which boasts 70 tonnes of bollard pull, is slated to start operations in mid-2023 at the Port of San Diego, and will replace an existing diesel-powered tugboat that consumes some 30,000 gallons of fuel per year.
