165 Foundations for Offshore Wind Farm
Marine engineering group DEME is to transport 165 foundation units for the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm in the UK.
Monopoles and transition pieces will be transported and installed at the site, 89 kilometers off the Yorkshire coast, by DEME’s new DP3 offshore installation vessel Orion.

Bladt to Ship Transition Pieces from Aalborg
Bladt Industries will produce 135 of the transition pieces for the ambitious expansion project, under a contract from developer Ørsted. Fabrication will take place at Bladt's site in Aalborg, Denmark, prior to breakbulk transport between mid-2020 and mid-2021.
"This contract is not only one of the largest contracts Bladt Industries have been awarded, but fosters also strategic opportunities to further strengthen our relationship with Ørsted. A contract of this size will allow us to full scale utilize our new and lean production set-up,” said Steen Mortensen, CEO of Bladt Industries.
The Hornsea Two project will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world when it is completed in 2022.
Hornsea One Starts Operations
It will take the mantle of world’s largest from the nearby Hornsea One, which this month began operations as the first 50 turbines were powered up.
Construction is still ongoing at the site, also operated by Ørsted, and the farm is scheduled to deliver a total capacity of 1.2 gigawatts when it is fully operational in 2020.
“Hornsea 1 is the first of a new generation of offshore power plants that now rival the capacity of traditional fossil fuel power stations. The ability to generate clean electricity offshore at this scale is a globally significant milestone, at a time when urgent action needs to be taken to tackle climate change,” said Matthew Wright, UK managing director at Ørsted.
Based in Fredericia, Denmark, Ørsted has installed an estimated 25 percent of the installed offshore-wind capacity in the world, according to Nordea Bank.
