DENZAI has completed heavy-lift work for the Indorama 3 fertilizer production plant in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, marking the Japan-based company’s first project in Africa.

Working under a three-month contract, group company DENZAI International Projects carried out 19 heavy lifts totaling 4,350 tons, including operations in both the ammonia and urea production areas. The company provided technical planning, crane operators, and leased a 1,350-ton LR11350 crawler crane for the project, on behalf of client Daewoo E&C Nigeria, a unit of South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering and Construction.

The project was awarded by Indorama Eleme Fertilizer and Chemicals.

Once complete, Indorama 3 will include a 2,300-ton per day ammonia unit and a 4,000-ton per day urea plant and is aimed at boosting fertilizer availability and food security in Nigeria.

“We are pleased that we have successfully completed this project, the first of its kind in Africa,” said Kohki Uemura, president and CEO of DENZAI. “We sincerely hope that the construction of this fertilizer plant will contribute to improving the efficiency of agricultural production in Nigeria and help alleviate the food crisis in Africa.”

Jeong Won Seo, director of DENZAI International Projects, said completing DENZAI’s first project in Africa without any accidents or injuries had been a “huge test” for the company.

“This project was made possible by bringing together the efforts of employees from group companies in Korea, Japan and other countries, and it has laid the foundation for our business in the rapidly growing African market.”
