Storm Forecast to Move Northwards
Hurricane Dorian has bypassed Florida and is forecast to hit the coast of the U.S. states of North and South Carolina later this week.
Maximum sustained winds are currently near 105 mph and the tropical storm is expected to remain a powerful hurricane during the next few days. Hurricane-force winds are reported to extend outward up to 60 miles from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds outward up to 175 miles.
“Dorian is forecast to move near or over the coast of South Carolina and North Carolina Thursday through Friday morning … Tropical storm conditions will begin within the Hurricane Warning area in the Carolinas later today, with hurricane conditions by tonight,” the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in a statement.
The Coast Guard Captain of the Port has set port Condition Zulu for the Ports of Savannah and Brunswick, Yankee for Port of Charleston and Whiskey for the Port of Delaware Bay, due to the expectation of sustained gale force winds.
