Supports Canada's National Shipbuilding Program
Irving Shipbuilding Inc., based in Halifax, has awarded GEODIS the contract to manage inbound logistics for significant shipbuilding and repair projects as part of Canada's National Shipbuilding Program.
GEODIS will oversee all inbound logistics to Irving's facilities in Halifax, Nova Scotia, supporting the construction of the Canadian Surface Combatant, Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships, and Halifax Class Frigate Repair Contracts. GEODIS' advanced IT systems will provide Irving with complete visibility of its supply chain.
Michael Snow, Irving Shipbuilding’s Director of Supply Chain, commented on the selection of GEODIS: "GEODIS was chosen for its global presence and proven logistics expertise. This partnership enables us to fulfill our obligations under the National Shipbuilding Strategy by involving local businesses."
The Canadian Government's Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) Policy aims to leverage defense and Canadian Coast Guard procurements to promote jobs, innovation, and economic growth nationwide. The National Shipbuilding Strategy, part of this policy, seeks to revitalize Canadian shipyards, strengthen the naval industry, renew the fleet, and increase employment. Irving's initiatives are central to these objectives.
As Canada strives to rebuild its maritime sector, opportunities are growing for project logistics professionals. Luke Mace, senior vice president of project logistics at GEODIS, said, “Our extensive experience in defense and marine logistics allowed us to develop a precise solution tailored to meet specific client and governmental requirements in a responsible manner. We look forward to our continued collaboration with Irving Shipbuilding, which has played a major role in constructing Canada’s naval fleet.”
GEODIS will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Europe 2024, May 21-23 in Rotterdam. Meet the team at Stand 2F31.
