Takeover to Support Nigg Energy Park Expansion
Offshore engineering specialist Global Energy Group said it has acquired oil and gas services firm Aiken Group.
The pre-pack deal will see Global Energy continue to support Aiken Group’s existing client base and multi-disciplinary engineering and project management services, particularly in modules, accommodation and refrigeration
Aiken Group, an Aberdeen, Scotland-based supplier of accommodation modules, was placed into administration last month. Global Energy now expects to integrate the group within its ICON division, which caters to the offshore production market.
“We are delighted to conclude the purchase of this business, which brings complementary skills to our existing business, and we look forward to working with the team to ensure we enjoy a long and successful future together,” said Ian Cobban, Global Energy Group COO.
Breakbulk Hub at Nigg
The acquisition continues Global Energy’s recent investment strategy to expand breakbulk capabilities and follows plans for further development of their facilities at the Port of NIgg in the north of Scotland.
Feasibility studies are underway for construction of an additional breakbulk quayside on the East side of the yard, featuring 250 meters of deep water berths to increase berthing capacity.
“We are the first Port in Scotland to successfully conduct marshalling activities for an offshore wind project with the ongoing Beatrice Project, and during this period we have seen demands for quayside space which exceed our current infrastructure capabilities. The new East Quay will allow us to better service our existing customers and attracting new ones,” said Rory Gunn, facilities director at Nigg Energy Park.
Combined Investment of £100 Million
Global’s investment comes in parallel to construction of a new deepwater berth at the nearby Port of Cromarty Firth. This ambitious project will involve reclamation of nine acres of surrounding seabed, formed from around 500,000 tonnes of sand dredged from the Global’s Nigg Energy Park.
“When complete, the total investment over five years between Global Energy Group at Nigg Energy Park and the Port of Cromarty Firth in Invergordon will be in excess of £100 million … The additional quayside infrastructure at Nigg Energy Park combined with our own in Invergordon reinforces the Port’s role as a strategic asset for Scotland and the UK,” Gunn added.
