(Global) Rebrand Adds Jack-up Vessel, Wind Lift 1
Breakbulk specialist Harren & Partner said it has launched SAL Renewables, providing specialist offshore wind installation and services.
Formed as a sister company to heavy-lift shipping firm SAL Heavy Lift, the new venture will focus on offshore maintenance and installation of wind turbines along with ancillary components.
“SAL Renewables is a perfect supplement to our established logistics business, but also something new. By offering maintenance and component installation services predominantly for the wind turbines themselves, we are expanding our total service offerings to the global renewables market while also meeting the toughest individual demands and expectations in the offshore markets,” said Martin Harren, managing director of Harren & Partner.
Industry Change
The new venture will be led by Heiko Felderhoff, who has been appointed managing director of SAL Renewables. The business will be based in Bremen, Germany, with the firm citing the convenient location as a driving factor as it seeks to “leverage the diverse and far-ranging resources” within the group.
“Wind power has been a cornerstone of our business in the past few years, and we continue to see significant projects here. The world’s demand for energy is higher than ever before, and a major energy transition is currently underway. The projects resulting from this change are crucial to our business,” Harren added.
Wind Lift I
The launch of the new division was announced alongside the addition of a new jack-up vessel to the group’s fleet. The Wind Lift I will join the group’s extensive portfolio of heavy-lift vessels and features a 500-tonne lifting capacity.
The dynamic positioning, or DP, jack-up crane vessel was built in 2010 and includes a high outreach offshore crane as well as fully equipped accommodation for up to 50 people. SAL Renewables envisage it will be “ideally suited for offshore wind maintenance projects as well as the installation of wind turbine parts.”
“Wind Lift I represents an important enhancement of our fleet. It extends our scope of action to provide our customers with comprehensive, yet customised solutions. Wind Lift I is a highly adaptable vessel. There are only few things that it can’t do, it’s kind of like a Swiss army knife. This asset makes for a great start for our new venture with SAL Renewables.” said Heiko Felderhoff, managing director of SAL Renewables.
Harren & Partner Group is an exhibitor at Breakbulk events and operates a fleet of heavy-lift vessels with combined crane capacities ranging from 550 to 2,000 tons.
“Megawatts capacity of wind parks keep increasing and old wind parks will need to be renewed with new turbines or decommissioned. With Wind Lift I, we are not only targeting the installation and maintenance market, but also decommissioning and upgrading of old existing wind parks,” said Matthieu Moerman, head of projects at SAL Renewables.
Along with the Wind Lift I, Harren & Partners also said SAL Renewables will hold access to the offshore DP2 heavy-lift vessel Blue Giant.
