HMM and NYK Bulk Pair Up for Breakbulk Service

Venture to Run Weekly Trips Between Far East and Middle East

South Korean logistics firm HMM and Japan’s NYK Bulk and Projects, or NPB, have announced a new endeavour providing weekly breakbulk services between the Far East and the Middle East.

The two operators said the venture would “benefit from their strengths and expertise in the carriage of breakbulk and project cargo between Japan and Korea and the Middle East and lead to the development of future opportunities”.

Seoul-based HMM, formerly Hyundai Merchant Marine, specializes in multipurpose services to the Middle East. It operates six large multipurpose vessels each equipped with cranes capable of 640-tonne tandem lifts.

Tokyo-headquartered NPB, part of NYK Line, one of the world’s largest shipping companies, is a leading ocean-carrier of project cargo and heavy-lift in Japan.

NBP operates a fleet of 40 crane-equipped multipurpose vessels, including the two newly built ships MV Katori and MV Kifune. Both newbuilds are equipped with a combinable 800-tonne crane and a long single hatch that can transport a wide range of cargo, including onshore and offshore wind-power components.
