Partnership To Explore Green Fuels Use in Transport and Infrastructure

ITM Power has inked an agreement with Deutsche Bahn to advance sustainable transport and infrastructure, with a focus on green hydrogen solutions.
The alliance aims to support DB’s climate-neutral strategy by 2040, a goal that includes converting its fleet of trains, buses, and trucks to low- and zero-emission vehicles powered by renewable energy sources, and developing the infrastructure for green energy operations.
The partnership will target five areas including developing decarbonization technologies, evaluating the use of green hydrogen in transport and mobility services, and exploring the pathway to zero-emissions operations, the UK-based renewable energy company said.
The two firms will also work on energy resilience and self-sufficiency and the logistics of green fuel supply chains across Germany and beyond.
“Deutsche Bahn has an ambitious strategy to transition towards a clean and climate-friendly rail system in Germany and to play a major role in the transportation of green fuels,” said Dennis Schulz, CEO of ITM. “We are delighted to support Deutsche Bahn in advancing sustainable transport solutions in the heart of the EU.”
ITM Power, a member of the Breakbulk Global Shipper Network (BGSN), designs and manufactures electrolyzers based on proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology to produce green hydrogen from renewable electricity and water.
The opportunities for breakbulk created by the green hydrogen economy will be the focus of a panel session at Breakbulk Europe 2025. “The Green Hydrogen Boom” will take place on the main stage at Rotterdam Ahoy on Wednesday, 14 May from 3:30pm to 4:15pm.
