Extension Sees Roll-out of Starlink to Most of Jan De Nul’s Vessels
Belgian offshore construction and dredging firm Jan De Nul has renewed a contract with Castor Marine to supply it with onboard hybrid Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geosynchronous Equatorial Orbit (GEO) connectivity systems.
The extension of a three-year contract signed in 2021 calls for satellite service provider Castor Marine to continue serving more than 80 dredgers, jack-up barges, cable installation vessels, full-pipe rock installation vessels, multipurpose ships, heavy-lift vessels, and unmanned survey vessels with very small aperture terminals (VSATs), Iridium, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solutions.
The updated contract includes a roll-out of the Starlink satellite internet constellation to most of Jan De Nul’s vessels.
“With the addition of Starlink, the Castor Marine-provided hybrid LEO GEO service is a leap forward in terms of internet speed and latency, bringing significant benefits in terms of both crew welfare and business operations for Jan De Nul Group,” the companies said.
The installation and service contract also includes necessary hardware and round-the-clock support services for Jan De Nul’s global fleet.
