KBR Wins Contract for US Green Hydrogen Project

First State Hydrogen Aims to Provide Clean Energy to US Mid-Atlantic Region

KBR has been awarded an engineering services contract by Delaware-based First State Hydrogen to support the feasibility and development of its first green hydrogen production facility in the U.S.

KBR will deploy its resources and know-how to study the viability of setting up the plant, which would produce green hydrogen through electrolysis – a process that uses wind, solar or other renewable energy sources to split water into oxygen and hydrogen.

The project aims to provide clean energy to Delaware and the U.S. mid-Atlantic region.

“We are excited to be a part of this important project that will contribute toward a cleaner, more sustainable world,” said Jay Ibrahim, president of KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions. “This award highlights KBR’s extensive and innovative clean hydrogen expertise in providing solutions that matter, and our strategic commitment to the energy transition.”

World-scale hydrogen projects across the world are fast becoming an exciting new business line for breakbulk professionals – the scaling up of electrolyzers and other heavy components such as wind turbines and solar panels in particular requires significant logistics support.

The industry was given a recent boost following the signing of a strategic development agreement at the UN’s Climate Change Conference, COP28, held in Dubai last December. New projects could soon be underway across Europe, the Americas, Asia Pacific and MENA, according to sources.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, KBR employs 34,000 people worldwide and has operations in more than 30 countries. The company focuses on sectors such as aerospace, defense, industrial and intelligence.

KBR is a member of the Breakbulk Global Shipper Network, an extensive networking platform for executives operating at the top end of the project supply chain in sectors such as oil and gas, energy and renewables, mining and minerals, construction, forestry, industrial manufacturing, and aerospace.

The next in-person meet-up for BGSN members will be at Breakbulk Europe 2024 on 21-23 May at Rotterdam Ahoy in the Netherlands.
