Heavy-Lift Specialist Bagged Prize for Abnormal Transport up to 120 Tonnes
Portugal-based heavy-lift specialist Laso Transportes has been named one of the winners at the hotly-contested ESTA Awards 2023.
Laso bagged first prize in the “abnormal transport, total mass up to 120 tonnes” category for the transport of multiple wind turbine components including towers, nacelles, power trains and hubs for the Barao de S. Joao wind farm in Portugal’s flat, arid Algarve region.
The series of moves, carried out last year, also called for the transport of 82-metre blades – the largest in the Iberian Peninsula, Laso said. The company deployed its Goldhofer FTV 850 trailer to carry the blades and its Nooteboom Mega Windmill Transporter and lift adapter to handle the larger tower sections and nacelles.
Most of the units were transported from the port of Aveiro, south of the Portuguese city of Porto.
ESTA, the European association of abnormal road transport and mobile cranes, held its awards ceremony on 20 April in Amsterdam. The winners were picked from a pool of shortlisted entries for each award category.
