(Americas) Expansion Project at Seattle-Tacoma
Cargo specialist Mammoet has completed the transport of an elevated pedestrian walkway as part of expansion work at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
The outsized movement involved transport of the 1,472-ton walkway using the accelerated bridge construction (ABC) method. The span was transported using 56 axle-lines of SPMT in a four-point configuration.
“Once in position under the piers, erection crews took over, using four 900-ton steel frames that utilized a strand jack system. This was the first time these frames from the Netherlands have been used in the United States to control the systems cables,” a spokesperson for Mammoet said.
Headquartered in Schiedam in the Netherlands, Mammoet provides a range of services from breakbulk transportation to heavy-lift logistics and crane rental.
