Mammoet Wins Work at Pearl Harbor Dock

Heavy-lift Specialist to Install Floor Sections Weighing 4,000 Tons a Piece

Mammoet has struck a deal with the Dragados-Hawaiian Dredging-Orion (DHO) joint venture to carry out transportation and lifting services for the construction of Dry Dock 5 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The project originates from the U.S. Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program (SIOP) that aims to ensure that the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY) and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (IMF) can continue supporting the Navy by maintaining and modernizing the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s nuclear-powered submarines.

As part of the work, the heavy-lift specialist will deploy SPMTs and specialized gantries to transport and lift floor sections weighing more than 4,000 tons a piece.

Initial work to install foundational piles into the harbor walls has begun, Mammoet said, with the project slated for completion in late 2027. The new dock will be deeper than the existing facility to accommodate the U.S. Navy’s Los Angeles and Virginia-class attack submarines for repair, maintenance and modernization.

“We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to share our expertise and experience on this high-profile project,” said Pierre Mille, sales manager for Mammoet.

“The heavy lift and transport development strategy we have shared with DHO will allow us to provide an efficient solution and offer the best possible execution strategy for this project. We are very thankful for the opportunity and are eager to build upon our methods to ensure we perform above expectations for our customers.”
