Breakbulk Delivery from Altamira
Offshore engineering contractor McDermott International has announced substantial completion of the Pemex Abkatun-A2 platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
The complex engineering, procurement and construction contaract involved breakbulk transport of components from the Altamira yard near Tampico, Mexico.
"The project demonstrates our ability to deliver a vertically integrated, turnkey EPCI solution to build and commission platforms and associated structures utilizing our project management, engineering and fabrication teams in Mexico,” said Mark Coscio, senior vice president at McDermott.
Altamira Fabrication Facility
Several breakbulk components for the construction project were manufactured at McDermott’s Altamira fabrication facility, with transport and installation work carried out using Derrick Barge 50 and Intermac 650 vessels.
“The Altamira yard is strategically positioned as a free trade zone and provides fabrication services for the Gulf of Mexico and Americas. The yard is known for its high-quality craftsmanship and exemplary safety standards,” a spokesperson for McDermott said.
Headquartered in Texas, McDermott is one of the largest integrated onshore-offshore EPC companies in the world, with operations in over 54 countries and a workforce of approximately 32,000 employees.
Replacement, Expansion Capabilities
Located in Mexico's Bay of Campeche in the Gulf of Mexico, the project marks McDerrmott’s largest in size and total value to date for Pemex. Following completion it is scheduled to begin operation imminently.
"With substantial completion of the Abkatun-A2 Platform project successfully achieved, Pemex is ready to begin commercial operations," Coscio said.
The Abkatun platform will provide replacement and expansion capabilities to the existing Ku-Maloob-Zaap, Cantarell and Ayatsil facilities.
