McDermott to Install Deepwater Pipeline Tiebacks
Offshore contractor McDermott said it will supply and install deepwater subsea pipeline tiebacks and structures connecting at the Stonefly development and Ram Powell platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
The contract was awarded by developer LLOG Exploration, and alongside breakbulk transport for the project covers installation engineering, subsea structure and spoolbase stalk fabrication, and subsea installation.
"This award demonstrates McDermott's commitment to helping LLOG safely and competitively deliver the Stonefly development. McDermott's proven track record of project execution in the Gulf of Mexico, combined with our industry-leading subsea capabilities and integrated business model, will help drive efficiency while maintaining our uncompromising commitment to safety and quality,” Richard Heo, senior vice president at McDermott.
1,250-meter Water Depth
Work will involve construction of a 60,000-foot 6-inch pipeline at water depths ranging from 1,000 meters to 1,250 meters. McDermott will also design, fabricate and install a steel catenary riser, a pipeline end manifold and two in-line sleds.
“The Stonefly development includes the Viosca Knoll 999 area where McDermott is scheduled to use its 50-acre spoolbase in Gulfport, Mississippi, for fabrication and reeled solutions,” a spokesperson for McDermott said.
The subsea tiebacks and structures are scheduled to be installed using McDermott’s North Ocean 105 vessel in the third quarter of 2019. Structure design and installation engineering began in January 2019 at McDermott's Houston office.
Byron, Otto Eye Gulf of Mexico Prospects
Offshore developer Byron Energy and partner Otto Energy meanwhile announced new prospects for breakbulk activity at their South Marshall Island outer-continental shelf lease in the Gulf of Mexico.
The joint venture partnership said it had received new RTM seismic data following an agreement signed with Schlumberger subsidiary, WesternGeco, to add additional licensed 3D seismic data.
“Already, we are seeing the benefits of this new, improved and expanded database. In the very short period of time we have had this data it has revealed a number of exciting new opportunities within the South Marsh Island project area,” said Maynard V. Smith, CEO of Byron.
